The Resident Return Visa (RRV) is a type of visa available for permanent residents of Australia who wish to re-enter the country after traveling abroad. It is designed to facilitate the return of individuals who have already obtained Australian permanent residency but have spent significant time outside the country or whose travel facility on their existing visa has expired.
There are two subclasses of Resident Return Visas: Subclass 155 and Subclass 157.
Subclass 155:
This visa is for current or former Australian permanent residents who meet the residency requirement. To be eligible, applicants must have spent at least two out of the last five years in Australia as a permanent resident or be able to demonstrate substantial ties to Australia.
Subclass 157:
This visa is for former Australian permanent residents who no longer meet the residency requirement but can demonstrate compelling reasons for their absence from Australia. It is typically granted for a single journey.
The Resident Return Visa is generally valid for five years (subclass 155) or one year (subclass 157). It’s essential to ensure that your visa remains valid if you wish to maintain your permanent residency status. You can renew your Resident Return Visa by applying for a new one before your current visa expires.
